Note
This article applies to Sonday System (SS1), Sonday System 2 (SS2), and Essentials K–5 (EK–5) on the digital platform.
There are multiple ways to display content to students, depending on your product(s) and the way your computer/devices are set up. Use the table below for an overview of each type, and view the linked articles for more detailed instructions for each method.

| Method | Description | Applicable Products |
|---|---|---|
| New Window | Only the content intended for student viewing displays in a pop-up window; no teacher-only content displays to students. You can drag the new window from your main device to a connected screen, such as a monitor or smart screen. | SS1, SS2, and EK–5 |
| Follow Along | Displays an enlarged view of only the content intended for student viewing; no teacher-only content displays to students. The other device(s) do not need to be physically connected as long as they have an internet connection, and multiple devices can connected at once. With this option, students navigate to a specific site on a web browser, type in the class's Follow Code, and follow along with the slides on their own device. If desired, you can also use this device as a teacher to display student content on a different device from where you're viewing the teacher content. | SS1, SS2, and EK–5 |
| Preview | The student content displays in miniature in the Slide Controller, but this option does not contain a way to display student content digitally during a lesson. The Preview option keeps only the instructor view. | SS1, SS2, and EK–5 |
| Single Screen | This is a student-facing combined view of instructor and student content. The student content takes up the majority of the screen, but the teacher content displays at the top. This option is best-suited for educators that do not have multiple screens or devices. | EK–5 (lessons only, not Science of Reading Warm Ups or Cool Downs) |
Setting and changing your Display Method
- You can set a generic default Display Method in the Digital Settings section of your teacher profile. This will apply to all of your classes.
However, if you wish to use different display options in different classes, you can edit the class to identify a class-specific Display Override in each class's Class Detail page.
Note
The Single Screen option, available only for Essentials classes, cannot be set as your default option in your teacher profile nor in a class's Display Override.
- Every time you teach a class, you still have the option to change your Display Method, and your selection will be remembered the next time you teach the class.
