Science of Reading (SoR) activities in Sonday System 1 and 2

Science of Reading (SoR) activities in a variety of linguistic areas are provided for each Sonday System 1 and 2 level as Warm Ups (to be done right before a session) and Cool Downs (to be done immediately after a session). These activities are designed to take only 1-2 minutes to complete; however, some Cool Downs may be extended to a longer time, as appropriate for your students.

 Recommendation

Choose either one Warm Up or one Cool Down activity to do each day.

 Tip

Before conducting your first SoR activity, visit the Science of Reading tab on the Product Home page for additional context, research findings, and direction.

  5. Different types of activities as well as different versions of the same activities appear at each level, so that unique content can be presented during every teaching session. Choose only one activity per session.  As with a regular lesson, any content that needs to be read by the student(s) in a Science of Reading activity appears in the Slide Controller and can be shared via your preferred Display Method. Use the forward and back arrows to navigate through the slides. The End slide will appear when all student-facing content has been displayed.
Note that not every activity has slides. Sometimes students must respond to an oral prompt contained in the teacher instructions.
