Creating a Custom Word

If you wish to teach a vocabulary word that does not appear in the word list for your class's grade level (for example, a word from a different grade level or a word relevant to something your class is learning in another subject), you can create a custom word.

From the Word Lists page, click 'Create Custom Word.' Input your custom word along with its grade level, definition(s), part(s) of speech, and example sentence(s).

 Note

Synonyms, antonyms, and an example sentence using the word are optional.

 Tip

To add multiple definitions, use the tabs below Definition 1 (you may add up to 4 definitions).

Select the activities you wish to make available for your custom word.

 Caution

All activities are selected by default; deselect the activities that are not valid for the custom word. For more information on the criteria for valid and invalid activities, see the Activities article.

The custom word can now be found at the end of the word list for your class's grade level. You can also quickly and easily locate it using the search bar.
