Using Digital Readers in Sonday System 1 & 2 lessons

The Digital Readers  are electronic, leveled, decodable readers composed nearly entirely of words with spelling patterns your students have already been taught to read. They're designed to build confidence and a sense of accomplishment in budding readers.

There are several ways to use the Digital Readers:

  • In class in your regular Sonday System lesson (covered in this article)
  • In class but outside of the Sonday System lesson (such as for Guided Reading practice, where you'll have more time to focus on vocabulary and comprehension)
  • Outside of class by assigning to students to read independently at home

The Readers are an optional add-on for your Sonday System 1 and/or 2 (SS1/SS2) subscription. You can check whether the Readers have been purchased for your product by looking for the orange Readers Included icon where the product image appears on your Teaching Dashboard.

If the Digital Readers are included with your product, they will automatically appear as an option for reading practice in Step 6 - Read Aloud at any level with a corresponding Reader.

Readers are available at the following levels:
Sonday System 1 (SS1):

  • Levels 6–36

Sonday System 2 (SS2):

  • Levels 6–34

 Note

If you think you should have access to Readers but don't, reach out to your administrator.

Each Reader sets you and your class up for success via preview slides to help you teach vocabulary, phrases, and comprehension. Any words with spelling patterns your students haven't yet been taught will display in one of the preview slides.

If you want a larger image than what is provided via the thumbnails, click the Toggle View button (eye icon) to page through the slides using the navigation arrows. You'll only see one slide at a time, but each image will be easier to read.
