The steps listed in this section reflect a typical Imagine Sonday System Essentials lesson plan. Details of the lesson plans may vary, especially in Essentials K and Essentials 1.
Step 1 – Read Sounds
Each slide in the Slide Controller displays a card from the current set(s) being reviewed (Sound, Blend, Prefix, Suffix, or Root Card). In lessons that review cards from multiple sets, the sets will appear in the order in which they are listed in the lesson plan, and the cards within each set will be displayed in a random order. Click the purple button with the forward arrow in the Slide Controller to advance through the slides until you’ve finished the set or until the timer runs out. You can also use a clicker to advance through the slides without needing to stand next to the teaching device.
Click 'Next Step' when you are ready to go to Step 2 - Spell Sounds. The system will not display the slides beyond Step 1 until you go to Step 2.
Step 2 – Spell Sounds
Click the purple arrow button in the Slide Controller to display the Writing Prompt slide, cueing students that it’s time to write. To keep a record of all responses, have students use the Student Notebook, which can be purchased in sets of 25. Students learning remotely can submit their completed pages by scanning or taking a picture and sending via email. If record keeping is not a concern, a whiteboard and dry-erase marker can be used for this step.
Click 'Next Step' to move on to Step 3 - Read Words.
Step 3 – Read Words
The categories of student reading material for this step are displayed in the lesson plan. This content will be displayed in the same order in the Slide Controller.
When students are finished reading words or the recommended time for this step is up, click 'Next Step' to move to Step 4 - Spell Words.
Step 4 – Spell Words
Display the Writing Prompt slide to indicate that students should write as you dictate. Dictate as many of the words and phrases/sentences listed in the lesson plan as you are able to in the time allotted for this step.
When you finish dictating or the recommended time for this step is up, click 'Next Step' to move to
Step 5 - Introduce New Material.
Step 5 – Introduce New Material
All the content displayed in the lesson plan for this step should be taught in the time allotted. Click the purple arrow button in the Slide Controller to display the slides for any new concepts, then follow the instructions for dictating words, if applicable.
The last slide will display: End of Lesson.
To finish your session, click one of the end session buttons.
Note
If you exit your web browser or otherwise exit your session without ending it first, the session will remain open. You cannot begin a new session in any product while a prior session is still in progress.
The Class Lesson Completed page will display automatically. From this page, you can view the attendance
from the session and easily download the lesson’s Worksheet and/or Printable to print or display to
the class.
