In a Lesson with a Mastery Check, Mastery Check for Spelling will replace Step 4 - Spell Words in the lesson plan. (The Slide Controller will still display 4 - Spell Words for the students so that they are not pressured by the assessment.)
Click the purple button with the forward arrow in the Slide Controller to display the Writing Prompt slide. Make sure to dictate all 20 words in a Mastery Check so that you can assess whether students can spell all the words in an appropriate amount of time. There are no sentences to dictate in Mastery Checks.
Finish a Mastery Check Lesson the same as any other session, by clicking 'Click Here To End This Session.' After ending the session, the score summary will be displayed. Click 'Edit' next to each student to open their Scoring page.
Record the student's spelling scores by reviewing their Student Notebooks. For any misspelled word, check Incorrect and, if desired, write the incorrect spelling or a brief description of the error in the Error Description field.
General notes on the assessment can be added at the bottom of the page, if needed.
A general recommendation for the class will be provided after spelling scores have been input for all students. Students who scored below the threshold for mastery will also have a red exclamation icon next to their score.
You may return to the lesson to input scores later, when it is convenient, if you do not have time to do so immediately after the lesson. To input scores, select the class and look in Recent Session History for the Mastery Check scoring icon. If it is red, then you have not finished inputting all students' scores. Click the icon to add or edit scores.
